Vice Chairperson Gould presided at the meeting, telling the
Senate that Chairperson Panayotatos was unable to attend. She called
the meeting to order at 1:16 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT - Ken
Swalagin, Executive Secretary
- Agenda: The meeting's agenda was
approved as distributed by the executive secretary.
- Minutes: The Minutes of
February 22, 2013 Senate Meeting
were
approved as distributed by the executive secretary.
- Communications: The
following communications were presented by the executive secretary
- The Draft
Middle States Periodic Review Report is online for review and
comment by the Rutgers community.
- Self-nominations are currently being accepted for
PTL/Annual-appointee Senators, and for staff Senators. The deadline for
nominations is today at 6:00 p.m. If your term as a staff or PTL/AAF
Senator is expiring, and you wish to run for another term, please make
sure you have emailed me (swalagin@rci.rutgers.edu) your
self-nomination and brief campaign statement by 6:00 this evening.
- The May 3 Senate meeting may begin in the morning, if the
agenda warrants an early start. The election of Senate officers,
Executive Committee members, and board representatives will also take
place at the May meeting, during the portion of the day devoted to the
first meeting of next-year's Senate.
- University
Policy 50.2.1 on University Senate Membership and Organization has
been revised to reflect changes approved and requested by the
University Senate regarding Senate size and composition.
- President
Barchi's Response to the Senate's Report
and Recommendations on Charge S-1107, Publication Repository
Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Richard Edwards then
summarized the process of the Middle States Periodic Review, and
invited the Senate's feedback on the
Draft
Middle States Periodic Review Report via a
dedicated website. He
said that the report is due to Middle States in September.
COMMITTEE REPORT:
Academic Standards, Regulations
and
Admissions Committee (ASRAC) Response
to Charge A-1301 on Extension of the Fall 2013 Add/Drop Period
- Martha Cotter and
Dan Schantz, ASRAC Co-chairs
ASRAC Co-chair Martha Cotter summarized her committee's report and
recommendations on Charge A-1301 on Extension of the Fall 2013 Add/Drop
Period. The report was then adopted by the Senate with none
opposed.

NEW BUSINESS: There was no new
business.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT -
President Robert L. Barchi [by proxy]
President Barchi was unable to attend the meeting. Ann Gould read a
prepared Administrative Report received from President Barchi, which
included comments on:
- status of UMDNJ/Rutgers integration;
- strategic planning; and
- his planned April 11 meeting with the Rutgers University Student
Assembly.
REPORTS
OF THE REPRESENTATIVES TO BOARDS OF GOVERNORS AND TRUSTEES:
Senator
Samuel Rabinowitz, Faculty Representative to the Board of
Governors, reported on the February 28 Board of Governors
meeting. Senator Martha Cotter, Faculty Representative
to the Board of Trustees meeting, reported on the March 7 Board
of Trustees meeting.
CAMPUS FACULTY LIAISON REPORTS:
There were no reports from campus faculty liaisons.
