CALL TO ORDER AND DETERMINATION OF A QUORUM: Chairperson Panayotatos called the first meeting of the 2011-2012 Rutgers University Senate to order at 10:45 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Rutgers Student Center, 126 College AvenueCollege Avenue Campus, New Brunswick. He introduced himself, and welcomed new and returning Senators. Panayotatos said that Senators should feel free to ask, utilizing "point of information," if they do not understand any portion of the proceedings.

PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR: Privilege of the floor was granted to Nominating Panel Chairperson Victor Greenhut, a member of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 Senates.
 
REPORT OF THE NOMINATING PANEL: Nominating Panel Chairperson Victor Greenhut presented the report of the Nominating Panel.
 
Senator Greenhut gave a brief overview of the nominating and election process, as well as the runoff procedure for at-large faculty Executive Committee member elections. He said that candidates for positions which are uncontested are not required to make statements in support of their candidacies, but may do so if they wish.
 
Senator Greenhut then announced candidates for Senate chairperson, vice chairperson, and Executive Committee members, calling for nominations from the floor in each category.
 
The nominations in those categories completed, the resultant slate of candidates was:

Faculty Members of the Executive Committee, New Brunswick: Peter Gillett, RBS:N/NB (F); Kenneth McKeever, At-Large NB (F)

RUNOFF ELECTION FOR FACULTY MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: All candidates in contested campus-specific Executive Committee categories declared their willingness to run in the at-large category, as needed. A runoff election was conducted for all full-time faculty members of the Executive Committee based on the above slate so that those nominees who did not prevail in the contested New Brunswick Faculty EC category could be placed in the at-large category. Candidates for New Brunswick and Newark Faculty EC Member made statements in support of their candidacies. The Senate was instructed to complete the separate portion of the ballot for that category. The ballots were collected and tabulated, and the results announced.

Senator Greenhut then announced candidates for student, PTL/annual-appointee faculty, and alumnus Executive Committee members, as well as board representatives, calling for nominations from the floor in each category.  For the position of Alumnus Member of the Executive Committee, Robert Barraco nominated himself from the floor, and Raymond Bodnar nominated William Norville from the floor. For the position of Newark Student Member of the Executive Committee, there was no candidate nominated, and it was announced that an election for that position would be held at the October 2011 Senate meeting. For the position of Undergraduate Student Representative to the Board of Trustees, Katherine Yabut (SAS-NB), Joshua David (SAS-NB), and Minru Hwang (Engineering) nominated themselves from the floor. For the position of Graduate Student Representative to the Board of Trustees, Kyle Jasey (RBS Graduate Programs-N/NB) nominated himself from the floor, and Paul Barnett nominated Kenneth Henriques (GS-Camden) from the floor..
