CALL TO ORDER and CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT - Ann Gould, Chairperson

Chairperson Ann Gould called the meeting to order at 1:21 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Paul Robeson Campus Center, Newark Campus. She welcomed all attendees, and thanked Interim Newark Chancellor Todd Clear and his office for hosting the Senate, and for providing lunch.

COMMITTEE REPORT

Faculty and Personnel Affairs Committee (FPAC) Response to Charge S-1306 on Dual-Career Programs [Link goes to report as amended and adopted by the Senate at this meeting] and appended Summary of Dual-Career Services - Ann Gould and Rudolph Bell, FPAC Co-chairs

Senate Vice Chair Martha Cotter assumed the chair while Senate Chair and FPAC Co-chair Ann Gould summarized the report, which was a response to the FPAC having been charged as follows:

Dual-Career Programs: Examine the desirability of establishing a dual-career services program within Rutgers Human Resources in order to enhance the ability of Rutgers to recruit and retain faculty and staff who may need to relocate to accept a position at the institution. Research policies at peer institutions that provide the accompanying partner with the tools and services to access resources for an effective job search and make recommendations as appropriate.

Gould then called to the podium Dr. Natalie Batmanian, Director of Rutgers' Office for the Promotion of Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics, who spoke about her initiative in the context of dual-career programs. Gould then read the report's recommendations, adding a new Recommendation #2, as follows:

2. The FPAC recommends that for the 2013-2014 academic year, the administration, while preparing its proposal, coordinate with the Office for the Promotion of Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics and its dual-career initiative.

Gould moved the report, so amended by the FPAC. Following brief discussion, the report and its recommendations were adopted by the Senate with few opposed.

NEWARK CAMPUS REPORT - Interim Newark Chancellor Todd Clear

Interim Newark Chancellor Todd Clear presented the Newark Campus Report, touching on subjects that included the following:
Clear then responded to questions from Senators.

OLD BUSINESS:
There was no old business.

NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business.

REPORTS OF THE REPRESENTATIVES TO BOARDS OF GOVERNORS AND TRUSTEES: Senator Samuel Rabinowitz, Faculty Representative to the Board of Governors, reported that there had been no Board of Governors meetings since the previous Senate meeting. Senator Menahem Spiegel, Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees, reported that there had been no Board of Trustees meeting since the previous Senate meeting.

CAMPUS FACULTY LIAISON REPORTS: Senator Samuel Rabinowitz, Camden Faculty Council Chairperson, reported on that group's recent plans and activities. Senator Martha Cotter, New Brunswick Faculty Council Chairperson, reported on that group's recent plans and activities

CHAIR'S CLOSING COMMENTS: Chairperson Gould again thanked Interim Chancellor Clear for providing lunch to the Senate, and reminded the Senate that the last Senate meeting of the current semester would be held on December 6 in New Brunswick.
