TEXT OF PRESIDENT McCORMICK'S FEBRUARY 13, 2012 RESPONSE TO REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CHARGE S-0807A, ADD/DROP PERIOD

I am writing in response to the Report and Recommendations on Charge S-0807A on the Add/Drop Period, as adopted by the University Senate on January 27, 2012. I thank the members of the Academic Standards, Regulations and Admissions Committee (ASRAC) for their continued attention to this issue.

My administration accepts the Senate's recommendation to lengthen the add/drop period by one day to an eight-day drop period and a nine-day add period, making permanent the trial period adopted during the last two academic years. By copy of this letter, I ask that the online Academic Calendar be adjusted to reflect the extended add/drop period going forward. In addition, in accordance with the Senate’s second recommendation, I ask that the online Schedule of Classes and the Webreg website post the Senate’s recommended cautionary language regarding the risks that students run by adding a course late in the add/drop period.

I appreciate ASRAC’s careful deliberations on this issue and am pleased that a permanent resolution has been reached.

Sincerely yours,
Richard L. McCormick
