Rutgers University Senate
Student Affairs Committee Report
Recommendations for Student Charter Trustees

January 2007

The Student Affairs Committee met on January 26, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the Scarlet Room of Winants Hall.  Committee members present were Gregory Blimling, Ray Bodnar, Li Guo, Jessica Larmony, Kimberly Mauroff, Robert Niederman, Karen Schaich, Akash Shah, Brian Spatocco, and Patrick Wallace.

All eight candidates for Rutgers University Charter Trustee positions were contacted by email and each responded. One candidate, Margaret Coppolo, withdrew from consideration for personal reasons. One candidate, Janis Rodgers, was unable to attend the interview. She was informed her candidacy would be considered based on the written materials she submitted.

Each of the remaining six candidates were interviewed in closed session, one at a time, for 20 minutes each.  All candidates confirmed that they attended Rutgers for at least two years (including the current semester) and that they would have junior standing at that end of the current academic semester. After all of the candidates were interviewed, the committee discussed the written materials submitted by Janis Rodgers,

The committee then discussed each candidate in the order in which he/she was interviewed. Following the discussion about the candidate, each member of the Committee using a five-point scale (five being the highest) individually rated the candidate on a form.  After all candidates were discussed and rated, the numerical ratings for the candidates were averaged and announced to the Committee.  After the announcement of the ratings and discussion, the committee voted to recommend or not to recommend each of the candidates.

The Student Affairs Committee voted unanimously to recommend the following four students for further consideration as a Rutgers University Charter Trustee:

The Student Affairs Committee voted unanimously not to recommend any of the other candidates.

Members of the committee were reminded of the confidentiality of the deliberations.  The committee adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
