STUDENT SENATORS MAY NOW SELF-NOMINATE FOR THE UPCOMING STUDENT CHARTER TRUSTEE VACANCIES

Rutgers’ Board of Trustees’ membership includes three Student Charter Trustees who are selected from among the current undergraduates of the Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden campuses. Student Charter Trustees generally serve six-year terms and enjoy full voting privileges on the board as well as the opportunity to serve on board committees. This year, nominations are being solicited for one full term, and also for the two remaining years of an unexpired term that is currently vacant. Student Charter Trustees are also appointed to the University Senate for the duration of their Board of Trustees term. The term for the new position extends from July 31, 2013 to June 30, 2019. The two-year term extends from July 31, 2013 to June 30, 2015. When submitting your self-nomination, please indicate if you prefer to run for the six-year term, or the two-year term, or if you have no preference and would be willing to accept either term if elected.

You are invited to nominate yourself for the upcoming election of two Student Charter Trustees. Eligible students will have completed a minimum of two full years of study at Rutgers University, and must have between 48 and 83 credits toward their undergraduate degree, at the time of election to the board in July 2013.

This is an excellent opportunity to participate in shared governance at your University, and to influence change at Rutgers University and in the State of New Jersey through service on an important body which oversees the policy and direction of the University. Student Charter Trustees give voice to student concerns and interests in Board deliberations, ensuring that these issues can play a crucial role in shaping the future of Rutgers University. Additional information on the Board of Trustees can be found online at: http://ruweb.rutgers.edu/governance/.

To nominate yourself for the position of Student Charter Trustee, nomination packets must be received no later than October 17, 2012 by Ken Swalagin, Executive Secretary of the University Senate, ASB-III Suite 110, Cook Campus (or by US Mail at 3 Rutgers Plaza, New Brunswick, NJ 08901-8559; or by email to swalagin@rci.rutgers.edu). The nomination packet must include: your brief cover letter stating your interest in being a Student Charter Trustee and stating any past or current public or Rutgers service, as well as your resume (including your school affiliation, campus address, educational and work experiences).

Note: Nominations are also being solicited from student governing associations and all undergraduate students through the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Student Senators can self-nominate through either avenue (but not both, please).
