Text of April 2, 2003 memorandum from James Burkley, Office of Institutional Research and Academic Planning to Kenneth Swalagin, Secretary of the University Senate

Subject:   Period Review Report

This is to request that the university’s Periodic Review Report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education be reviewed by the Senate Executive Committee at its meeting on April 18, 2003.  Dr. Paul A. Snyder, Vice President for Institutional Research and Planning, and Professor Barry V. Qualls, Dean of Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Sciences-New Brunswick, who serves as Chair of the university-wide Periodic Review Report Oversight Committee, will attend and be available to answer questions concerning the report.

The Periodic Review Report is an essential phase of the accreditation cycle, following five years after the decennial self-study and reaffirmation of accreditation that took place in 1998.  The report is an analysis of the institution since that evaluation, and a response to the recommendations made at that time by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.  The Oversight Committee gathered information concerning the implementation of the recommendations and prepared a report that demonstrates how Rutgers University meets the standards by which the Commission reaffirms accredited status.

The Periodic Review Report currently is available at http://oirap.rutgers.edu/MSAPRR.html and a copy is attached.  Comments concerning the Periodic Review Report are invited from members of the Executive Committee and from other members of the University Senate, and may be submitted to:
