Text of March 19, 2001 Memorandum from President Francis L. Lawrence

Subject: Resolution on Posting Student Instructional Rating Data Online

Thank you for transmitting to me the Resolution on Posting the Student Instructional Rating System to the Web as approved by the University Senate at its meeting on March 23, 2001. I agree with and accept the recommendations to make student course evaluations more accessible to the university community by providing this information online. Further, given the relevance of this information to students as they schedule their classes, I support the recommendation for the provision of specific links to the instructional rating database on the Online Schedule of Classes and various other Rutgers websites. I also favor including the departmental questions which are added to the base rating form in the enhanced electronic access.

By copy of this memo I am forwarding these recommendations to Dr. Gary Gigliotti of the New Brunswick Teaching Excellence Center who will oversee implementation on all three campuses. I am also sending a copy to Mr. Michael McKay, as RUCS’s involvement in implementation of these recommendations will be integral to their success. I trust that we can begin implementing these recommendations in the near future and am asking that I be regularly apprised of our progress toward full online access to the instructional rating database.

Please extend my appreciation to the Senate and its Instruction, Curriculum and Advising Committee for their report and recommendations on this issue.
