TEXT OF PRESIDENT McCORMICK'S SEPTEMBER 9, 2010 RESPONSE TO THE REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CHARGE S-0908, PROPOSAL TO INCREASE STAFF MEMBERSHIP ON THE SENATE

I am writing in response to the Report and Recommendations on Charge S-0908, Proposal to Increase Staff Membership on the Senate, as adopted by the University Senate in March 2010 upon the recommendation of the University Structure and Governance Committee. The Committee has my thanks for its work in considering the merits of increased staff representation and assessing the role of staff members on the Senate's standing committees.

My administration is pleased to support the Senate's report and recommendation to increase the number of staff representatives to the Senate from 10 to 14, effective with the 2010-11 academic year. A revision of the language in University Regulations 50.2.1.B(1) and 50.2.1.B(9) will be proposed to the Board of Governors at an appropriate time.

Sincerely yours,
Richard L. McCormick
