Text of February 19, 2004 letter to Senate from President McCormick acknowledging Report and Resolution on Use of Athletic Facilities as Rain Sites or Venues for Non-Athletic Events:

I am pleased to accept the Report and Resolution on Use of Athletic Facilities as Rain Sites or Venues for Non-Athletic Events as approved by the University Senate on March 28, 2003.

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has made a commitment to expanding the use of facilities for the kinds of events outlined in the Student Affairs Committee report. In 2003, the Rutgers Athletic Center was used as the rain site for RutgersFest, and it has been scheduled as the event’s rain site in 2004. It also served as the rain site for Rutgers College’s opening convocation last August, has been used by the university as a concert venue, and will be the site (or rain site) for many of our commencement exercises this May. Director of Athletics Robert Mulcahy has assured me that the Division will continue to consider using the Athletic Center as a venue for major university events.

I thank the Senate for bringing this issue before the administration for action.

Sincerely yours,

Richard L. McCormick
