TEXT OF PRESIDENT McCORMICK'S OCTOBER 19, 2007 RESPONSE TO THE  REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CHARGE S-0602, COURSE TEXTBOOK RESERVE REQUIREMENT:

 I am writing in response to the Report and Recommendations on Charge S-0602, Course Textbook Reserve Requirement, as adopted by the University Senate on April 27, 2007.  The members of the Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee have my appreciation for the attention they have given to this important issue.

My administration is happy to accept the Senate's report and recommendations.  Each year, I will send a message to Rutgers faculty reminding them to consider ways to reduce textbooks costs for our students.  This message will also direct them to resources that offer helpful suggestions and best practices.
