TEXT OF PRESIDENT McCORMICK'S SEPTEMBER 18, 2008 RESPONSE TO THE REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CHARGE S-0703, INTERSESSION:

Thank you for forwarding the Senate Report on Charge S-0703 on Intersession, as adopted by the University Senate on May 2, 2008. Please express my appreciation to the members of the Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee for their examination of intersession programs at other universities and their recommendations regarding intersession course offerings at Rutgers.

By copy of this letter, I am asking the relevant academic officers to give full consideration to the Senate’s recommendations as they develop future intersession programs on their campuses, and to distribute these recommendations to their Deans and Department Chairs as appropriate. Intersession programs provide students with a valuable educational option as they work toward completing their degrees. We have an obligation to ensure that Rutgers academic standards are fully met regardless of when and how our courses are offered.

Sincerely yours,
Richard L. McCormick
