CALL TO ORDER, DETERMINATION OF
QUORUM, AND CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT - Peter Gillett, Chair
Senate Chair Peter Gillett called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m. in
the
College Avenue Student Center Multipurpose Room, College Avenue Campus.
He welcomed
everyone and made comments to include:
- modification
of the day's the agenda since it had been electronically
distributed the week prior, adding the administrative report by
President Barchi;
- the New
Brunswick Chancellor's report to be given by Chancellor Deba Dutta and the
subsequent
question and answer period rules; and
- Mary
Mickelsen being selected to replace Ken Swalagin as Executive Secretary
of the University Senate.

REPORT - Robert L. Barchi,
University President
President Barchi presented an Administrative
Report
that included comments on:
COMMITTEE
REPORTS
Research
and Graduate & Professional Education Committee (RGPEC) Response to Charge S-1703 on Grant Costs - Adam Kustka, RGPEC Chair
The RGPEC was charged as follows: Identify
specific grant cost issues that negatively impact the University's
mission to conduct research across disciplines, and actively engage in
its students in that research, including but not limited to:
tuition, fringe rate, Facilities and Administrative costs ("F&A,"
formally known as indirect costs), support services, and negotiated
vendor contracts. Identify and engage stakeholders, and make
recommendations.
RGPEC Chair Adam Kustka
presented
and summarized the RGPEC's Response to Charge S-1703 on Grant
Costs. There was no
debate, and the resolution carried unanimously.

Chancellor's
Report. Dutta then
responded to questions, or heard comments, on the report and related
issues.
SENATE EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE
REPORT - Senate Vice Chair Jon Oliver reported on the March 2, 2018 meeting
and activities of the Senate Executive Committee.
REPORTS
OF THE REPRESENTATIVES TO BOARDS OF GOVERNORS AND TRUSTEES:
Senator Samuel Rabinowitz, Faculty Representative to the Board of
Governors, reported the Board of
Governors had not met since the last Senate meeting and their next
meeting will take place on April 10. Senator Robert Schwartz,
Faculty Representative to the
Board of Trustees, reported that there had been no Board
of Trustees meeting since the previous Senate meeting.
CAMPUS FACULTY AND STUDENT LIAISON
REPORTS:
Senator Samuel Rabinowtiz,
reported the Camden Faculty Council had not met since the last Senate
meeting . Newark Faculty Senator John Kettle reported on that group's
meeting and the NFC Chair's desire to have more Senate meetings on the
Newark Campus. Senator Sanjib Bhuyan, New
Brunswick Faculty Council Chair, reported
on that
group's plans and their February 23, 2018 meeting. Senator Viktor
Krapivin, New
Brunswick Student
Member
of the Senate Executive Committee, reported on New Brunswick student
governing association activities.
