TEXT OF PRESIDENT McCORMICK'S RESPONSE TO SENATE REPORT ON ASSIGNMENT OF TEXTBOOKS:

I am writing in response to the University Senate’s Report on Possible Conflict of Interest in Assignment of Textbooks, which was approved at its March 11, 2005 meeting.

The administration is in agreement with the Senate’s recommendations.  These are reasonable and responsible means of avoiding real or perceived conflicts of interest and ensuring that textbook assignments are made based on pedagogical merit.

The members of the Senate’s Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee have my thanks for their thoughtful research and recommendations on this topic.

Sincerely yours,

Richard L. McCormick
