TEXT OF PRESIDENT McCORMICK'S
SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 RESPONSE TO THE REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CHARGE
S-0702, TOLERANCE AND SENSITIVITY:
I am writing in response
to the Report and Recommendations on Charge S-0702, Tolerance and
Sensitivity, as adopted by the University Senate on April 27, 2007.
My thanks to the members of the Student Affairs and Equal
Opportunity committees for their work on this issue. The Senate
has put focus on a critical aspect of promoting diversity:
assuring an environment of tolerance and sensitivity that makes
all feel welcome.
My administration is pleased to accept the Senate's recommendations and
will establish a university-wide committee to advance and promote
multicultural and diversity initiatives, using the Tolerance and
Sensitivity report as a valuable resource document. I look
forward to the formation of this committee and to working with its
members to advance diversity across Rutgers.
Again, my thanks to the Senate for this important effort.
Sincerely yours,
Richard L. McCormick
