UNIVERSITY SENATE
CANDIDATES’
STATEMENTS
September 29, 2006
Special Election
for 2006-2007
Staff Senator
Member of the
Senate Executive Committee
Crystal Grant (Newark Staff): “This is a critical time to have been named a
Senator
and I would be even more honored to serve on the Executive Committee. I
bring
tremendous dedication, integrity and experience to the Executive
Committee. My
knowledge has been built during 19 years of service that extends to our
library
system, our athletic program, a graduate school, and the Newark College
of Arts
and Sciences. I am proud of my association with our university. I take
great
pride in our business and appreciate the calculated complexity of our
bureaucracy. As Business Specialist for the Department of Visual and
Performing
Arts on the Newark Campus, I actually implement much of the policy
presented by
the Executive Committee and I can add critical insight when the
Committee
considers implementation and oversight of University policy. I am very
confident that I can be of great service to the Executive Committee.”
Betty McCoy-Carter
(New Brunswick
Staff): “I am aware that many
of you don't know me and what I
am capable of. But, if you give me your trust and support, I will
become a
University Senate Staff Executive Committee member, who will get the
job done.
I know this because that is what I am about, getting my jobs done. For
twenty
five plus years, Rutgers, The State
University
have benefited from my persistence, my honesty and my devotion. As a
University
Senate Staff Executive Committee member, I will expand on these
attributes and
acquire new ones that will add to the prestige of the University
Senate. I
asked for your vote and your confidence in me, a mystery to most of
you.”
Gayle
Stein (New Brunswick
Staff): “The role of
the University Senate Executive
Committee is to examine issues of broad interest to and impact on the
entire
university community and to make recommendations to senior university
administrators about these issues. Through their Senate
representatives, this
provides a means for faculty, administrators, students, and alumni to
have a
direct say in the university’s future directions. With experience
working with
all of the aforementioned constituency groups and trying to understand
their
unique needs, I believe that I could be an effective contributor to the
executive committee in many of its major functional areas. Planning:
I
have experience planning and implementing university-wide strategic
projects
such as RUNet2000 and Sakai and I have been involved with developing
policies
such as the university’s NetID policy; Creating the charge for and
evaluating the results of other sub-committee actions. I also
served on the
IT Strategic Planning executive team which set the charge for each of
the sub-committees,
including those for instruction, research, university life, business
and
enterprise services, and governance. This team also evaluated input
from the
university community and produced the final Plan. In addition to my
committee
experiences, I have also been a graduate student, research center
administrator, and instructor at Rutgers,
activities which have provided me with a broad knowledge of the
university, its
community, and its needs.”
