TEXT OF MAY 27, 2004 E-MAIL FROM PROFESSOR BURDEA, ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING, REGARDING REVISED UPDATED TRAVEL POLICY:

Secretary of the University Senate:

Following up on our conversation today, I looked at the Minutes of the April 28 meeting of the ECE Department faculty.
On that day the department unanimously passed the following Motion:

"The electrical and computer engineering faculty have reviewed the updated travel policy and feel that it is an
overburden to all faculty and serves as a detriment to research presentations and the university standing in
general."

Dr. Panayotatos forwarded the motion on behalf of the faculty to the NB Faculty Council and to the President's Faculty
Advisory Committee.

As I  stated before, our faculty does not recall ever being consulted on the above policy which affects those of us who dare
travel to present their research! It also affects Deans who probably have better things to do than to review justifications as to
why we use EZPass (and have no $2.50 toll receipts) instead of waiting half an hour in a cash lane on the highway.

With best wishes
