Instruction,
Curricula and Advising Committee (ICAC) Report on Charge S-0607, Sale of
Examination and Desk Copies of Textbooks [Now posted as Amended and
Adopted 12/7/07 by the University Senate] - Natalie Borisovets, ICAC
Chair
Senator Borisovets, chair of the Senate's Instruction, Curricula and
Advising Committee, summarized her committee's response and
recommendations on Charge S-0607, on sale of examination and desk
copies of textbooks. Senator Gillett proposed two amendments: to change
an occurrence of the word "unsolicited" to "complimentary" (which
amendment was accepted as friendly by Borisovets and the ICAC members
present); and to delete the recommendation that faculty may donate
complimentary copies of textbooks to students. The second proposed
amendment was discussed at some length, and eventually failed by a
narrow margin. Senator Nolfi moved to amend the recommendation that
Rutgers post its solicitation policy to stipulate that "appropriate
portions" be posted (which amendment was accepted as friendly by
Borisovets and the ICAC members present). Senator Wild moved to change
the site of the policy posting from "academic buildings" to "academic
departments." This amendment was not accepted as friendly by the
committee, was thereafter discussed briefly, and carried on card vote.
Senator Markowitz then called the main question, on adoption of the
report, as amended. The Senate adopted the report and its recommendations, as amended.
University
Structure and Governance Committee (USGC) Second-Draft Report on Charge S-0603,
Senate Membership, New Brunswick (Part 2, Faculty) - Tricia Nolfi, USGC
Chair.
Senator Nolfi, chair of the University Structure and Governance
Committee, summarized her committee's response and recommendations on
Charge S-0603, on Senate Membership, New Brunswick. This was the second
part of the USGC response to the charge, and focused on changes in the
Senate's faculty membership from the recently reconfigured School of
Arts and Sciences-New Brunswick. The recommendations in this
report included a change to Senate Bylaws/University Regulations.
Therefore, in accordance with established parliamentary procedure,
introduction of the proposed amendment to Senate Bylaws at this meeting
constituted notice that the Senate would be asked to adopt the change
at the January 25, 2008 Senate meeting. The report was duly noted by
the Senate.
