• Letter from Senator Yaw Mensah, on behalf of the Faculty Caucus of the Senate, to Dr. P. Roy Vagelos, dated October 21, 2002, regarding the Future of Business Education in New Jersey State University System
• On December 17, 2002, Secretary Swalagin transmitted to Matthew Ramsay and Tahirah Cooper, Co-Chairs of the Student Affairs Committee, three nominations for 2003 Student Charter Trustee, to be reviewed and evaluated, and returned to the Executive Committee for its February 7, 2003 meeting.
• Memorandum from University Vice President for Academic Affairs Joseph J. Seneca to Vice Presidents, Provosts, Directors and Faculty, dated December 18, 2002, regarding Grades and Social Security Numbers, which relates to, and supports, the Senate’s October 2000 Resolution on this subject

• Draft Charge to committee requested by Senator Pieczenik:  “Explore the issue of biased treatment and expulsion of Israeli academics by British and other European universities.  Determine whether Rutgers should have a policy for responding to international incidents of ethnic bias at other institutions, particularly those institutions whose faculty visit Rutgers.”  Committee charged and report deadline to be determined.  [http://euroisrael.huji.ac.il/index.html]  [http://euroisrael.huji.ac.il/original.html]
• Potential Charge to Committee requested by Senator Cooper:  “Evaluate the current state of the Knight Express program.  Is it making sufficient progress in equipping vending machines with debit card readers on all three campuses?  How is the progress of the program in extending to off-campus sites?  What suggestions could be made that might facilitate off-campus sites?  What suggestions could be made that might facilitate progress on both of these fronts?  What other services might benefit from the use of Knight Express that are not currently equipped for the program?”
• Potential Charge to Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee by Senator Cooper:  “Given the high number of Jewish students enrolled at Rutgers University, and Rutgers’ status as the State University of New Jersey and as a public institution, examine the possibility of closing school on the Jewish high holy days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Also, examine the possibility of starting classes a week (or some other number of days) earlier than they have been starting in recent years, and add a week-long (or some other corresponding number of days) fall break mid-way through the fall semester.”  NOTE:  Ken Swalagin forwarded this suggested charge to ASRA Committee co-chairs as relevant to the standing charge to formulate the academic calendar.
• Potential Charge to Budget and Finance Committee by Senator Cooper:  “Examine the number of blue light safety phones on all three campuses and the effectiveness of their locations.  Explore the advantages of increasing the number of these phones, as well as student knowledge of what these phones are and how they work.”  NOTE:  Ken Swalagin forwarded this suggested charge to B&F Committee co-chairs as relevant to their Charge S-0208 on After-Hours Study Space, Classroom/Building Security and Vandalism.

• Potential Charge to Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee regarding Review of Winter Session, pursuant to Report and Recommendations approved by the Senate October 2000
• Charge to Student Affairs Committee regarding Instruction, Curricula and Advising (ICA) Committee’s Charge S-9912 on Student Advising:  “Per University Senate action on November 1, 2002, provide input on the Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee’s Charge S-9912 on Student Advising, and its report and recommendations.  The ICA Committee’s Report was sent back to committee for review and revision pending Student Affairs Committee input.  Submit comments and input to Senate Executive Committee by March 14, 2003.”
• New report date for Instruction, Curricula and Advising (ICA) Committee’s Charge S-9912 on Student Advising:  April 1, 2003.
• Received from Instruction, Curricula and Advising Committee, possible charges relating to issues stemming from the Report of the NJ Commission on Health Science, Education and Training:
• Review the effects of a possible merger on integrated system-wide units such as Libraries and Computing.  Possible areas of focus might be:  resources, the effect of instruction, and the effect on research.
• Review the effects of a possible merger on non-biomedical programs.
• Identify what conditions would need to be met for the addition of a medical school to positively impact the current Rutgers educational mission in terms of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, advising, and undergraduate and graduate research.
• Identify what areas would need to be addressed in order to completely integrate the interinstitutional graduate and undergraduate programs that are currently partially integrated.  Consider the implications for full-scale integration.
